Jay Buxton

About Jay

Born in Manchester, England in 1991, Jay began riding age 9 at his aunt’s local stables. Almost immediately Jay fell in love with the horses and his fascination with them grew and grew.

By the age of 10 it was clear that Jay had an outstanding ability to ride horses and was determined to forge a career with them.

At the age of 15, the following day after completing his GCSE’s Jay left Manchester and went to work for William Funnell in Dorking, Surrey. During this time Jay improved his riding skills; learnt how to work with young horses and how a professional yard was run.

After 18 months of invaluable experience Jay felt it was time to move on and spend some time abroad under the wing of Peter Bulthuis in Holland where he rode numerous winners including being placed 3rd in the Dutch National Z Final at Masstricht riding Onassis.

In April 2011 Jay decided to come home and set up base for the future at a nearby yard in Manchester.

Our Team

” I highly recommend when you are horse shopping to get your horse from Jay in Europe. Thank you Jay and his wife Paige for producing amazing jumper horses.”

“I have bought 3 horses through Strides Equestrian and my overall experience has been excellent. They have taken me to view horses and had horses brought to their yard for me to try out. They took great care to ensure that the horses met my exact requirements  and they all met my expectations and more. I would not hesitate to recommend them and will definitely use them in the future. Five star service all round!”
“Thrilled with both horses at my first international, both finishing the week with double clears. Thanks to Strides Equestrian for their continued support and training making it all possible.”

“I met Jay and Paige around 2 years ago they truly changed my life around my riding career. They supply incredible services which without doubt is unrivalled in the industry. The attention to detail amazes me to this day.

Their training/coaching from a riding and duty of care around rider and horses is unparalleled in anything I’ve ever seen. They inspire and motivate me from the very 1st day and both of them have improved my riding skills and awareness no end.
I can’t thank them both enough for changing me and my horses life! There’s is  nobody else who I would trust in buying and selling my horses.

Strides was first recommended to me as a sales agent by my trainer. She has imported dozens of horses over the years. She tried multiple agents before settling on Jay because of his consistency bringing her quality horses to fit her needs at reasonable prices. With such a recommendation I was happy to try, and he did not disappoint. He found me my horse of a lifetime. After such success using him the first time, it was a no-brainer to use him again! Once more I was shown an array of horses all perfect for my needs. The hardest part was choosing between them.

After getting to know Jay and Paige during our brief moments together I decided to consult them on finding a place to work overseas. They responded immediately with a job at their personal barn. I stayed for half a year before Covid brought me back to Canada. Working with the horses and in their program I saw how much care and effort was put into the athletes to ensure maximum comfort and top results. Their kindness extended beyond the animals as well. Working there felt less of a chore and more of a fun team exercise with a shared goal of maximum performance. I look back fondly on those memories as my favourite job I’ve ever held.”

“So nice to meet you last week, and thank you for your hospitality! The quality of the horses we saw was excellent, and it’s very rewarding for Jennifer and I to see a young family working together to fulfil your dreams and passion together with your growing business. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

We bought my daughters horse from Strides for her to compete British Showjumping. Paige and Jay recognised exactly what she needed and introduced us to Cassie, a superb showjumping mare, who has been perfect for her to progress through the levels.

Their honesty and professionalism made buying the horse completely uncomplicated and it’s clear that they genuinely care about their horses and their clients.

The quality and talent of Jay’s riding is matched and reflected in the young horses he produces, and he continues to be an inspiration for my daughter as a young rider.

They understand horses and the showjumping world, and I would always trust them in the future to help me buy or sell horses. What’s more, they’re really lovely people and it’s always a pleasure to speak to them!
