Breeding from quality stock gives you the best chance of having winning young horses. To this end, a well-bred mare needs to be paired up with a top stallion. In the showjumping world, the top stallions are most easily available by artificial insemination (AI) -the semen can be sent overnight (having been chilled) or it can be stored indefinitely by freezing in liquid nitrogen. The mare then is inseminated at the optimum time in her cycle to give the best chance of a successful pregnancy. We have years of experience of performing AI on show-jumping mares; Tony Buxton BVSc MRCVS is the veterinary surgeon in charge.
